About the Class
Hello Parents!
So glad we're going on this journey with your children! In this four week course we will be:
- Reading through books based on monsters. Books used are the ones shown in the photo above. I'll be reading some stories and doing some discussions.
- Drawing with watercolor pencils and learning how to use watercolor pencils.
- Learning some Chinese characters as well as some idioms. We will be providing printable flashcards of the words learned in class. Though it's suggested to review these items during the week with your children, it's not required.
- Older kids will get extra assignments on some writing (optional). We're not trying to stress your kids out but basically providing an opportunity for them to practice Chinese with a topic they love.
- Our end goal is to create our own monster and present it at the end of the fourth class. Presentations will either be pre-recordings or live depending on time and number of registrants.
Course administrative items:
- Duration of each course will be kept to an hour (but may go over by a little).
- You will have access to video recordings after the class accessible through here.
- If you have two children, just register for one seat and they can sign on together.
Materials you'll be needing are:
- Your child / children.
- Watercolor pencils: I suggest using Arteza for beginning artists. It's not professional quality but it's not children quality either. Children's quality watercolor pencils could lead to frustration because sometimes the colors don't come out. What you'll end up with is a hole in the paper for your child trying to get a color out! Ha! Here's a link to Arteza's watercolor pencils: https://amzn.to/3eWIw2M.
- Watercolor paper: I like using real watercolor paper because it has texture and it's way easier for children to blend colors with the right paper. Here's paper by Canson that's nicely priced! https://amzn.to/3ixDmN8 and good quality!
- Black liner pens: we will be using black liner pens to accentuate the drawings. Non smudge pens are ideal so that it won't smudge over the watercolors. https://amzn.to/2Z01gZT
- Cups of water for brushes.
- Paper towel.
These are pre recorded classes so they are go at your own pace.
